The shooting happened at around 7:15 p.m. Saturday, July 22, in Albany, near Morton Avenue and Elizabeth Street.
When officers arrived, they found Naheim Burbridge, of Albany, with at least one gunshot wound to the torso, Albany Police said.
Burbridge was transported by ambulance to Albany Medical Center Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
On Tuesday, July 25, police announced that a 17-year-old boy was in custody and charged with murder in the case. Police are not releasing his name due to his age.
According to investigators, Burbridge and the suspect were acquaintances and the shooting stemmed from an ongoing dispute.
Nobody else was injured in the attack.
The suspect, who is charged with second-degree murder and criminal possession of a weapon, is scheduled to be arraigned in Albany County Family Court.
Burbridge was a 2021 graduate of Albany High School. News of his death triggered an outpouring of condolences on the Albany Police Department's Facebook page, including from his former teacher Kristen Lopez.
"This is so sad to hear. I had him as a student and he was so respectful and hard working," Lopez said. "An absolute pleasure to have in my class."
